limabean active

Disposable Ubuntu dev VMs on a Mac from layered Lima templates, with pinned toolchains, keys that stay on the host, and an MCP server so Claude can drive them.

shell
brew install rossedman/tap/limabean

limabean up dev gives you an Ubuntu VM with a complete, version-pinned toolchain and your git identity, ready as fast as it boots. It pushes with your SSH keys without ever copying them in.

  • Packs. Docker, Python and core CLI tools in every VM; Go, Node, Kubernetes, Terraform, Rust and more per VM or per project.
  • .limabean.yaml in a repo describes the VM it needs, and limabean recipes has starters.
  • Keys and secrets stay on your Mac, from your agent, Keychain or 1Password.
  • Sandboxes for agents. Limit a VM to the domains its work needs and lock it.
  • Claude drives it through an MCP server: create VMs, clone repos, run tests and snapshot, without touching your Mac.
  • Safe to throw away. ~/code survives a rebuild, and rm refuses to run while you have unpushed work.

It’s plain Lima underneath, so limactl always works.
